Petition to U.S. Government for Airfare Transparency Issued by Lessno.com
New York, NY (PRWEB) October 6, 2008 -- Lessno.com, a discount travel website, today announced that it has created a petition to members of the United States Senate and House of Representatives encouraging transparency in advertised airfare pricing. The goal of the petition is to change the laws in the U.S. so that airfares advertised include all pricing and fees.
"The airlines and many airfare resellers have gotten away with advertising airfares that aren't even close to what it actually costs travelers to fly," said Assen Vassilev, co-founder of Lessno.com. "It's deceptive and wrong and has no place in the U.S. or in the travel industry."
Lessno.com was a major catalyst for a new European Union rule issued this summer that requires all airlines and airfare resellers that operate in Europe to advertise the full price of airfare, including all taxes and fees. With this petition, the company is looking to create movement that results in the same sort of law for American travelers.
"The fact that airlines have been able to get around false advertising laws for so many years because of their powerful lobby and economic clout is disturbing," said Stanley Gyoshev, co-founder of Lessno.com. "They have been able to create fees willy-nilly for anything they'd like without any oversight to pad their purses. It's time the U.S. government act. We're pleased to be working with travelers to put forth this petition and hopefully create change."
The petition can be found on the Lessno.com website and any American over the age of 18, is encouraged to sign it online. It will be sent to the following legislators:
